Available dates are bellow - at the calendar. The blank days are still free

Choosing date - when is the best time to come?

Canary islands climate is relatively stable. Not much difference between Summer and Winter, the main differences being:

Summer: The intensity of Sun is quite big, nights are warm and ocean calmes down.

Winter: Pleasant temperature (22-25C), cool nights. It can be a bit windy or rainy. The ocean tends to be more turbulent in winter, while in summer (from May onwards) it is much calmer.

Tourist seasons are 2 a year in the Canaries: winter belongs to the freezing Europeans, who are grateful for the sunshine, the pleasant temperature and the calm island atmosphere. European pensionists in particular flock here, but also digital nomads and anyone who can enjoy the benefits of free life.

The spring and autumn period tends to be lower season, car rental prices drop considerably, flights are cheaper again, parking spaces available almost everywhere. You'll enjoy wonderful peace and quiet time with half-empty beaches.

The advantage of spring and early summer is the long days (you can watch the sunset from the warm sand on the beach until 10pm). The added bonus of the Autumn is the warm sea temperature (up to 25-26C).

The Summer school holidays - July and August - are once again "high season", this time belonging more to Spaniards from the continent who come with their families. Summer tends to be warm to hot, warm nights allow you to sleep outside, if you wish.

Places to visit within the walking distance

Puerto de Santiago - Playa La Arena

Playa La Arena has black volcanic sand with tiny olivines. Sink into the sand in the late afternoon and let the lava sand warm you up. Great therapy for sore muscles, joints and other body parts, or just for energy re-charge.

Los Gigantes, Playa los Guíos and rock pool

Huge cliffs Los Gigantes and the district of the same name are about 2-3km away. You can take a bus or walk through the town and join the scenic walkway along the seafront. You'll pass a romantic rock pool (Piscina natural). Playa Los Guíos in Los Gigantes is usually calmer with the waves not as big as in La Arena. Harbour at Los Gigantes offers many restaurants, shops, ica-creams and you will find several agencies offering boat trips to watch dolphins and whales or to the island La Gomera.

If the sea is rough, it's usually possible to swim at the pier in Alcalá or in the small beaches (Las Jaquitas) between Alcala and Puerto Santiago. The nearest guaranteed quiet swimming spot is Playa san Juan - a calm bay where the waves rarely come in big. Alternatively, you can head to the beaches with breakwaters - the nearest is at the Abama Hotel, with others at Adeje, Las Americas or los Christianos. Playa Faňabe for safe long distance swimming or Playa el Duque with beautiful rocks and turquoise waters.

The village Alcalá and a beautiful coastal road

Alcalá is a quiet town without large hotel complexes. You'll find fish restaurants (Cofradía del Pescador, Casa Mon, Muelle Viejo), bars with Canarian cuisine (Tasca vista al mar - with the best local vine (bring your bottle and you can take home), cafes, quiet places to swim and a farmers' market every Monday 9am-2pm (better come as early as possible).

There is a bus to Alcalá or you can walk along the coastal path.

Some tips for a pleasant stay

  • Local produce
Volcanic soil produces excellent and high-quality food. The best place to buy Canarian produce is either in Lídl (Puerto Santiago) or Frutería Salvador (close to the appartment) or Fruvesur at Puerto Santiago. You can also visit the farmers' markets. Monday Alcalá (9-14), Wednesday Playa san Juan (9-14). Alternatively you can go to Adeje, Wed 15-19 and then Saturday, Sunday. Archajara Street, Las Torres https://www.guidetocanaryislands.com/adeje-farmers-market/ There is also a very good fruit and veg shop in Playa san Juan - Frutería - Manjar del Norte, where they have local produce from small farmers.
  • Helth food
The best range of products you can buy in Aloha health food and supplement shop - in Playa san Juan.
  • Car rentals
Cicar, Europcar among the best. Right at the airport
  • Clothing
If you do not plan trips to the North and to the mountains, bring just a pair of sandals and a light dress or t-shirt. Our place is warm year around.
  • Transportation
The local Titsa bus service is quite reliable and will take you to all corners of the island. Tickets can be purchased from the driver, but it's cheaper to buy a prepaid card which you can top up You can buy the card from the machines at the airport, at the central bus station and also in some shops and petrol stations. The card needs to be validated when getting on and off the bus. You can also download the Ten+móvil app and do without the card altogether, just with your mobile phone. You can also use this app to buy, for example, day or weekly passes. (weekly 50eur)
  • Are you a coffee lover?
u won't get cappuccino in many places on Tenerife, but a good option is "cortado natural" a small coffee with a milk foa, a bit like "flat white". The "cortado leche leche" has sweet condensed milk. Then specialties like "barraquito" with cognac and milk. Places with good coffee: Bar the View (just about 400m from our appartment), Bar de Carlos (Alcalá), Panini (Italian breakfast bar in Playa San Juan, Belli Freski in Playa San Juan.
  • Tips for good restaurants
Canarian food: La Barrica, a local restaurant a short walk away (5min walk). Bar the View - 400m from us. Breakfasts, paella on Sunday. Bar de Carlos - sardines, octopus, papas arrugadas (a Canarian potato speciality). Fish restaurants: Casa Mon, Muelle Viejo, Cofradía del Pescador (Alcalá) Local food and local wine Restaurante Tasca Vista al Mar in Alcalá, and lots of other restaurants to explore.
  • Water
The appartment is equipped with water filter. The water from the tap is classified as drinking water, but better avoid it, does not taste well. You can also buy water at the supermarket.
